Condition Report
Fine quality Sidelock made by master gunmaker Lewis Richards of Kettering. He was Lewis Richards, born in 1860 in Glendon, a small village just outside Kettering. Around 1890, he was an ironmonger at 5 Lower Street, Kettering from where he established himself as a skilled gunamker, building made to order, quality side by side shotguns and rifles.
Newer barrels are by a small gunmaker TUTTY, Ltd. of Kettering, a village in North Northampton. They are finished to a very high standard and are in quite nice condition, including the lustrous bluing, which shows no signs of wear. The gun swings and balances quite nice, right on the hinge pin. It is tight and ready for the field.
A Sidelock ejector at the price of a boxlock. I really like this gun, with its elegant scroll engraving and slender stock. This would be a joy to carry in the field. Traditional English straight hand grip with splinter style forend and a unique, wedge style crosspin fastener on the forend.
